この時代に認知症サポーター制度が必要とされている理由
2007年には超高齢化社会を迎えた日本。2021年現在、人口の10人に1人は高齢者です。
今後はますます高齢化率が右肩上がりとなり、2025年には約30％、2060年には約40％に達すると予想されています。このように高齢者の数が増えれば、認知症を患う方の数も増えていきます。
その一方で、高齢者や認知症を患う方の、医療・介護分野での人員は不足しています。そこで、厚生労働省は「認知症を知り地域をつくる10ヵ年」の構想を2005年4月より打ち出します。「認知症を知り地域をつくる10ヵ年」の構想のゴールとなる、10年後の2014年に焦点を合わせ、厚生労働省は、次のような到達目標を掲げました。
認知症を理解し、支援する人（サポーター）が地域に数多く存在し、全ての街が、認知症になっても安心して暮らせる地域になる
認知症を患う方の生活を、社会全体で支援・サポートすることが必要とされている今、認知症サポーターの存在は、なくてはならないものとなっています。
認知症サポーターになるには？
では、認知症サポーターになりたい場合、どうしたらよいのでしょうか。認知症サポーターになるためには、「認知症サポーター養成講座」を受講する必要があります。この養成講座のカリキュラム内容は、「認知症とはどういうものか」また「認知症の症状について」「認知症の診断～予防」「実際に認知症を患う方とコミュニケーションを取るにはどうするべきか」といった点について学びます。
90分程度の講座になっており、都道府県・市町村などの自治体や、全国規模の職域団体がこの養成講座を実施しています。養成講座の対象も、地域住民、職域、学校、広域の団体・企業等の従事者と多くの方が対象となっており、講座を受講さえすれば、誰でも認知症サポーターになることができます。
チームオレンジと認知症サポーターについて
認知症サポーターの活動に関連して、「チームオレンジ」と呼ばれる取り組みがあります。チームオレンジとは、認知症を患う方に対し、認知症との診断後から、早期に心理面・生活面の支援を行う活動です。
また、地域で生活する認知症を患う方や、その家族の困りごとに対して、支援をしたり認知症サポーターと結び付けも行います。チームオレンジの中には、認知症を患う方本人も参加することができます。
主な活動内容としては、認知症サポーター達が、認知症を患う方の外出支援や、見守り・声かけ、話し相手となったり、認知症を患う方の居宅へ出向く出前支援等があります。認知症サポーターが一方的に支援をするだけでなく、サポーターのメンバーの誰もが楽しみながら役割を果たすことを目的としており、認知症を患う方やその家族が、引きこもりがちになることを未然に予防するよう働きかけています。
