・レクリエーションは介護の現場だけでなく、医療現場や自宅など、様々な所で実施されています。「娯楽の時間」や「気分転換の時間」というイメージですが、実は目的や意義が備わっております。
・レクリエーションは英語で、「re」（再び・戻す）と「create」（想像する）を合わせて「recreation」と表記されています。そのため、
「人生の再創造」
「病気などが回復する」
「疲労を癒して元気になる」
といった意味も含まれております。
・レクリエーションには歴史があり、レクリエーションは「学校の休み時間である」との学説もあります。授業が終わった後の「休養」と、次の授業に向けた「元気回復」の時間であり、重要な役割があるといった説が、ヨーロッパの方ではあるそうです。
レクリエーションの種類
今回は福祉現場で行われている、高齢者に向けたレクリエーションの種類を紹介します。
大きく３種類に分ける事ができます。
・「集団レクリエーション」
複数人のグループで同じ内容の事を一緒に行うものです。
利用者同士のコミュニケーションも自然ととる事ができ、目的や目標を共有することで、仲間意識や絆が芽生えるきっかけになります。他者との交流が新たな生きがいになったりするケースもあります。
ただし、集団レクリエーションは仲間の輪に入る事に抵抗感を示す人も多いため、参加しやすい雰囲気づくりが大切です。無理強いしないことも重要です。
・「個別レクリエーション」
ひとりひとりのニーズに対応し、実施します。
また、完全に個別ではなく、ニーズが近い人を集めて少人数のグループで行うケースもあります。
集団レクリエーションが苦手な人や、他者とのコミュニケーションが難しい人など、個別レクリエーションが必要な人もいます。実施する時には、利用者さん個人の趣味や嗜好を把握しておくことが重要です。
・「基礎生活レクリエーション」
あえてレクリエーションの時間を設けず、日々の暮らしの中に心地よく感じる時間や空間を増やしていくものです。例えば食事に心地よい音楽を流したり、入浴の時間に懐かしい音楽を流すことです。共用スペースに花や絵画を飾ることなども基礎生活のレクリエーションといえます。
レクリエーションの目的と効果
①他者との交流がもてる
集団で行うレクリエーションでは、他者との交流やつながりを感じてもらうという目的あります。高齢になり、体力や身体機能が衰えると自然と外出が減ってしまい、自然と交流も少なくなっていき、引きこもりやうつ病になってしまうこともあります。デイサービスや福祉施設のレクリエーションでは、皆と一緒に活動する事で、他者との会話も弾み、自然とコミュニケーションの量も増やす事ができます。
②脳を活性化させる
手先を使った作業や、言葉などを使って考えながら行うレクリエーションは、脳の活性化を目的に行います。脳を活性化させると、認知症の予防や症状の進行を遅らせることに効果を発揮すると期待されており、中には健康麻雀といった自分の好きなことや得意なことをすることでストレス解消の効果もあります。特に女性では手芸が得意な人や塗り絵などを好まれる人も多くおられます。
③身体機能を向上させる
加齢に伴い体力的な衰えはある程度仕方がないことですが、体を動かすことを避けていては身体機能が低下する一方です。とはいえ、自分で意識的に運動する機会を設けたり、一人で体操したりするのはなかなか難しいものです。そのような時に助けになるのがレクリエーションです。決まった頻度で運動をする習慣を身につけることができ、仲間と一緒であれば一人で行うよりも続けやすいといった効果があります。
④生活の質を上げる
上記３つで紹介した、脳機能の活性化や身体機能の向上、他者とのコミュニケーションが増えていくと、生活の質が向上していきます。

日常生活に必要な動作と、生活の質を高めることは高齢者の尊厳を保ちながら、毎日健康で、楽しく長生きするために欠かせないものといえます。

目的や効果を知る事で、レクリエーションの種類は無限に広がっていきます。もちろん目的や効果が見えにくい場合でも、自分の好きな事や興味のある事に挑戦する事も立派なレクリエーションと言えます。そのため、レクリエーションは日々進化しております。ここではその一部を紹介します。
①タブレットを使った脳トレ
スマートフォンの普及により、高齢者もスマホを使いこなしている人が増えてきました。少しコツのようなものが必要ですが、タブレットのアプリを使って脳トレを行っている人もおられます。簡単な計算問題やナンプレ、漢字クイズなどなど。中にはアプリで麻雀や将棋を楽しむ方も多くなってきました。
②リラックスするレクリエーション

③団塊世代に合わせたレクリエーション
趣味や嗜好は様々ですが、中にはテレビゲームを使ったレクリエーションがあります。テレビゲームといっても指先でポチポチ動かすわけではなく、最近のテレビゲームは体を動かして遊べるものが増えています。例えばゴルフだとコントローラーを持ってスイングをすると、ゲームが同じ動きをして実際にゴルフをしているように楽しむ事ができます。テニスやボーリングなども実際に投げたり打ったりしている感覚で楽しめるゲームを、レクリエーションとして行っている所もあります。操作も簡単なので、個別でも集団でも行う事ができます。

コロナ禍だからといって、人と交流せずに生活する事はできません。レクリエーションは人々をつなげる重要な機会です。もしかすると高齢者自身もその家族も「幼稚」と感じるかもしれませんが、脳や身体機能を活性化させ、生活の質を上げる目的がある事を理解する事ができれば、見方も少し変わってくるのではないでしょうか。
